Standing on the edge of the platform, she looked down the darkened tunnel for any sign of oncoming lights. It was quarter past six and her father was expecting her to arrive from dance recital soon. She was his little girl, after all, even if she was nearing her eighteenth birthday. She was all he had left. Selena's mother abandoned them when she was only three years old and her father took full responsibility for the little munchkin...even when he feared that he would fail as a parent. And it worried Selena to give her father a reason to worry. He had been through so much already and worrying him was her least favorite thing to do. So, she dug in her duffle bag, her hand rummaging through clothes, shoes, and so on until she found her cell phone. But what good was a cell phone when it couldn't pick up reception underground. Defeated, she dropped it back in her bag, zipping it shut and holding the strap tighter against her chest. She wasn't alone on the subway. Commuters were heading towards the same destination—home. But it was one that gave her an almost concerning feeling. With every look over her shoulder, she'd catch his dark eyes darting away from her direction. His face was smooth, complexion of a newborn, with just the slightest hint of a five o'clock shadow that played well with his worn, leather jacket and biker boots.
